Native running power for the Garmin Forerunner 955 and 255 works in a very similar way, but now the whole experience is much smoother and blends in seamlessly. You can now set power zones for training (which work in the same way as heart rate zones), for example, and there are workouts based on running power zones. Garmin HRM-SWIM: An ANT+ heart rate strap that records heart rate underwater, but has an additional special sticky back surface to keep it from sliding down your chest in pool scenarios. Garmin HRM-TRI: An ANT+ heart rate strap with Garmin Running Dynamics that also records heart rate underwater and is designed for swim/bike/run triathlons.

(HRM-DUAL doesn't have caching but that wouldn't be needed in that scenario). It seems to me like from all Garmin specs and documentation, and the reviews, it's not possible to say for sure if either of those strategies would work, and the only way seems to be to buy both HRM's and try it out, which is quite expensive

But unfortunately it is still not working correctly. Connected via Ant+ to my watch and via Bluetooth to my headwind , i can see it on Zwift it has four green bars in the Zwift app, but does not send any heart rate to the app. Disconnected etc. no change. Very annoying. I definitely have only problems with the new firmware.

Ensure the module is fixed to the strap correctly. (only applicable to HRM’s with removable module) If using a HRM, wet the electrodes on the strap & position it on your body securely as per the user manual instructs. Perform 5-10 start jumps to get your heart rate up & commence the pairing process.
I use this while running and doing various workouts to track heart rate and get the added benefit of run metrics. It really helps me see how my run quality is and I can use it combined with elevation, pace and other data to work towards adjusting my stride. It has helped me fix my uphill runs so that I can work more efficiently instead of just Running Power not Recording with HRM-Tri. hoyhoy over 5 years ago. My HRM-Tri was connected to the Fenix 5X, but running power was missing for the first few minutes of my run. Is this a known problem? Until this week I have never had a problem connecting my Garmin HRM to Zwift. About 2 years. This week I have decided to try a multi-day ride. Simply hop off the bike while keeping the Zwift app running. On the second day all of my sensors said they were disconnected. I was able to reconnect to all except my HRM. Having said that, the pod’s tiny size is a mere 37.6 mm x 23.2 mm x 19.2 mm and weight 12 grams. So I could see myself eventually losing it, either by leaving it in my pocket or misplacing it Running dynamics is real-time feedback about your running form. Your Forerunner® watch has an accelerometer to calculate five running form metrics. For all six running form metrics, you must pair your Forerunner watch with the HRM-Pro™ series accessory or other running dynamics accessory that measures torso movement. HRM-Run provides 6 running dynamics metrics: Cadence — number of steps per minute. Stride length — length of your stride from 1 footfall to the next; measured in meters. Ground contact time — amount of time in each step that you spend on the ground while running; measured in milliseconds. Ground contact time balance — displays the left
The HRM-Pro™ series accessory calculates your running pace and distance based on your user profile and the motion measured by the sensor on every stride. The heart rate monitor provides running pace and distance when GPS is not available, such as during treadmill running. You can view your running pace and distance on your compatible fēnix

From Garmin site: “Store and Forward Your Data. The device stores heart rate data during swimming or other activities while your watch is out of range, then sends that data to your watch once the activity is finished. It will also store steps, calories and intensity minutes, then sync them to your watch as well.”.

My cheap garmin strap came with my Edge 800, so over 8 years now. Still going strong. (I did replace the elastic part once, but the brains are still working). My Garmin HRM (run) strap may be killed as I cannot get the stench out of it. Pretty bad when you struggle to outrun your own HRM strap stench.

A graph from Garmin Connect, showing heart rate measured by a Garmin HRM Dual. For example, take a look at the graph above. This was taking during an easy 8 mile run. My heart rate fluctuated a bit because it’s a hilly course, but overall it was an easy run.
