Even though it is a very good car model, it is not perfect. Now and then, your Ford Mondeo may have issues, with one of the most common ones being an oil leak. A Ford Mondeo oil leak problem can be the result of an oil pan that went bad, a loose or damaged oil drain plug, a bad or improperly sealed oil filter, or even a valve cover gasket. I have a 2009 Mondeo TDCi with 159,000 miles on clock. Intermittently the engine malfunction light and the ESP light come on and the display says Engine Malfunction – the car goes into limp mode. If I turn the engine off and then back on they disappear and may not come on for a few miles (anywhere between ½ mile and 20 miles.
Cleared the fault codes rail pressure is now spot on but up came the fault - cam position sensor - circuit malfunction. So I checked the pin data and measured the wires and found them to be wrong - pin one is 12v, (should be 5 volts). pin two is ground from ecu (correct) and pin 3 is 5 volts, (should be switched between 0 - 5 v).
Low fuel pressure will cause bad starting, lumpy running & smoke (due to oil droplet size too big). Forscan can monitor Fuel rail pressure. This usually needs to be at least 200Bar (20,000 kPa) at cranking speed, and 300 to 600 Bar (30,000 to 60,000 kPa) when idling. But there a lot of causes for low pressure:

Overall Mk4’s seem to have shown themselves to be fairly robust cars, but a couple of things do come up fairly frequently; Fuel vaporiser on the 2.0 Diesel – Commonly seems to fail around the 100K miles mark as it cogs up with soot. It is used to heat up the DPF to aid regenerating. Failure causes the DPF to clog up.

My car is a 2010 Mondeo 2.0 diesel estate car. The car was parked up around six months ago and the not used as I was working from home, because of covid etc. I did give it a wash with a pressure washer while I had it out cleaning a path and later found the battery was dead.
Possible causes : An electrical fault in the Turbocharger control circuit. MAP sensor electrical failure. Inspect connectors for signs of damage, water ingress, corrosion, etc. If the code is set at idle renew the turbocharger. If the code is not set at idle investigate faults with the MAP. ===END PCM DTC P2263:72-64===.

They are good cars and you get a lot for your money, apart from the injectors (allegedly the injectors are better/ tougher/ more reliable than the mk3 TDCI Delphi ones) and the DMF, the DPF can give trouble (all mk4s have them) with forced regen/ constant forced regen, choked DPFs being a problem, the EGR can give trouble, with stuck valves

As title says. Was driving along, then all of a sudden, engine cut out. As if someone pulled the plug out! No abnormal noises, and running perfectly up to that point.. Tried to restart, and within a couple of seconds of the engine turning over, the battery was flat also.. called the AA out who pu
Mk3 Tdci Replacing Ecu / Questions. I recently bought a Mondeo MK3 2.0 TDCi 2003, with an engine that wont start. The previous owner have had a Ford mechanic troubleshooting the var, and he has concluded that the problem is a faulty ECU. (I dont know if the car have several ECU's, this one is the one controlling the diesel / engine)

I also have the same DTC code P2002 on my Mondeo 2.0 tdci duratorq -07 but I get it together with P1335 wich is a fault in the EGR System. Did you check your EGR system?

I have recently purchased a Ford Mondeo 52 Plate 2.0 TDCI Zetec. When I accelerate mainly in 2nd and 3rd gear i get a plume of black smoke from the exhaust. I have recently removed the EGR and the inlet manifold and given them a thorough clean. This has not seemed to have fixed the problem.

It's exactly the same design as mine by the looks of it, i've got an 05 plate with the euro 3 and its made a marked difference. using a plain blanking plate is ok, but i fitted the proper replacement to mine as then you do get a cleaner, uninterrupted airflow to the engine by removing the actuator rod that runs from the vacuum unit on the side to the valve itself, its also advisable to whip

Mileage/ age related faults can be unpredictable but again preventative maintenance will lessen the chances of big bills. A healthy bank balance does help.

Step 1. Put the front of your car up onto the stands. (I'm paranoid so use large 6 Tonne stands and a second smaller set "just in case"). Always be safe when under a car! Step 2. Get under the car from the passenger side behind the wheels and follow the exhaust. find the PDF and inspect the hoses attached. Reverse gear selection difficulty. Had a few issues selecting reverse gear when my vehicle's cold (2004 Mondeo, 2.0 litre TDci). What I propose to do is remove the gear selector mechanism to clean any suspected inner surface corrosion, and lubricate it. Question is, is there a gasket between the gear selector and transmission that will need
