Help, Have a Mk6 1.4 TDCI which is slowly getting worse at starting when warm. Happened a few times months apart - but now nearly every journey. Ford say there is nothing wrong! Starts beautifully when cold, however after a journey, it'll refuse to start. Things all turn over as expected and it s
- putting it in second gear and pushing to turn over the starter one turn. This did change the sound a bit when i tried to start it afterwards, but then it almost instantly changed back to the old ticking noise. - pushing the car with the clutch down and letting the clutch come up slowly to try and start it without the starter engine.
Crank the engine, and check the tester. It should be over 100 psi. If it's lower, then you have a compression problem. If you have a busted timing belt, then you won't have compression on any cylinder. SPI's are known for dropping valve seats, so you might have compression on 3 cyls, and nothing on one. Spark:

try this. Turn On the car (do not start it, just turn key on) shift gear to N then turn off the car and wait for 15 seconds. Shift gear to P turn on the car (do not start just turn key on) wait for 15 seconds then turn off key and turn on again, shift gear to N the car will give you message Transmission Ready.

Well, I got it towed to the MOT place for the retest.. and it passed! But it still won't start! Apparently, the fuel pump isn't working and if you pump fuel into it manually, it works. .
